Authorship

Nursing Insight follows the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommendations for defining authorship and contributor roles to ensure transparency, accountability, and ethical publishing practices.

Authorship Criteria

Authorship is based on all four of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work
  2. Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content
  3. Final approval of the version to be published
  4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring questions related to accuracy or integrity are appropriately investigated and resolved

All four conditions must be met to qualify as an author.

Corresponding Author

One author must be designated as the corresponding author, who is responsible for:

  • Managing communication with the journal during submission, peer review, and publication
  • Ensuring all co-authors have approved the final manuscript
  • Coordinating responses to editorial and reviewer comments
  • Ensuring compliance with journal policies and publication ethics

Contributors Who Do Not Meet Authorship Criteria

Individuals who contribute to the research but do not meet all four ICMJE authorship criteria should not be listed as authors. They may be acknowledged in the Acknowledgements section with their consent.

Examples include:

  • Technical assistance
  • Data collection support
  • Writing assistance without intellectual contribution
  • General supervision or administrative support
